Faith can be both an arm of oppression as well as a source of hope and resistance. In Russia the Orthodox church wholeheartedly supports Russia’s war against Ukraine, but some in the church are critical of this stance. In Kazakhstan Islam mixes with folk beliefs and shamanism and in Croatia religion is a battleground between conservative and progressive groups in society.
