Arte is broadcasting Mozart's Requiem, recorded at the Lucerne Festival in August 2012, to mark the death of conductor Claudio Abbado. The Requiem is shrouded in mystery; it shouldn't just be understood as a funeral celebration for a great deceased man, it also calls to eternal light and salvation.

In 2001, Claudio Abbado and the Berlin Philharmonic gave a performance of Verdi's Requiem that was as intense as it was modern. The Italian conductor brought together an exceptional vocal quartet - soprano Angela Gheorghiu, alto Daniela Barcellona, tenor Roberto Alagna and bass Julian Konstantinov- backed by the Spanish Orfeon Donostiarra Choir and the Swedish Radio Choir. A concert performed on 27 January 2001, the centenary of Verdi's death.

Shortly after the Russian Revolution, Finland declared its independence on 6 December 1917. Every year on this National Day, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra traditionally gives its annual Independence Day concert. The 2023 lineup festures star violinist Pekka Kuusisto playing a selection of great Finnish composers: Magnus Lindberg, Esa-Pekka Salonen and, of course, Jean Sibelius.
