Gaza: Hunger as a Weapon

On 22 August 2025, a state of famine was officially declared in Gaza. The United Nations, humanitarian agencies and human rights organisations had been sounding the alarm for months, accusing Israel of using famine as a weapon of war by deliberately starving the population of the Gaza strip.

Benjamin Netanyahu's government complains of an anti-Semitic campaign against Israel orchestrated by Hamas, the UN and the international media. Foreign journalists still have no access to the Gaza Strip. Amidst border closures and heated debates, we have commissioned a team of Palestinian journalists to record the brutal reality for people in the Gaza Strip. Two of them have since been killed in an Israeli airstrike whilst documenting the extreme famine and the distribution of aid controlled by Israel during the summer months. The present situation forces the inhabitants of Gaza to make a terrible decision: starve to death or risk being killed in the search for food.
