President Bukele has installed a state of emergency in El Salvador to control the extreme violence and insecurity that plagued the central American country. Gang members have been incarcerated in a huge high security prison, CECOT. Although the streets are now safe from gang violence, many criticise the authorities on human rights grounds with arbitrary arrests and torture reported.
