Peru: Farmers Take On Big Business37 min
Available until 20/08/2053

It is a David versus Goliath story: Saúl Luciano LLiuya, a Peruvian farmer in the Andes, is suing the German energy giant RWE for its carbon emissions. When he learned that RWE is said to have emitted 0.47% of the world’s industrial greenhouse gas emissions, more than Peru since the country was founded, he felt he had to take action.
Back in 2015, he filed a lawsuit against RWE. Saúl's case could set a precedent for corporate climate responsibility and lead to more legal actions coming from the global south. The long-awaited first hearing is taking place in Germany on 17 and 19 March 2025.
