Cologne, Autumn 1944: In the bombed-out city, a small group of young people put up armed resistance against the Nazi regime. Bartholomäus Schink, Franz Rheinberger and Fritz Theilen belong to the so-called "Edelweiss Pirates", an originally apolitical youth movement that emerged in the late 1930s and was persecuted by the Nazis.
