Listed as part of the intangible cultural heritage of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2020, the refreshment kiosks of the Ruhr region are fighting for their survival. Of the 20,000 or so establishments that were once in operation, only 2,000 remain today. But their owners are determined to fight the decline.
