On a small island surrounded by high fences, a high security lab in the Baltic Sea is the Alcatraz for viruses. This is where researchers try to get the upper hand over some of the world's most dangerous pathogens. The island is filled with cows, poultry, crabs and dozens of other animals that are tested on to study how viruses evolve. The latest disease on the researchers' radar: African swine fever, which has slowly but surely been spreading across Europe.
