In northern Argentina, El Tren a las Nubes or the cloud train traverses the spectacular landscapes of the Andes on vertiginous viaducts at an altitude of some 4,000 metres. Completed in 1948, this feat of engineering was designed to transport the region's mineral wealth to neighbouring Chile.
