In Peccioli, a Tuscan village with around 4600 inhabitanys, a landfill side that was reacquired in 1990 became a gold mine. Managed by a local company, it generates revenues that fund schools, transport, art and welfare. 950 families are shareholders who also profit. The biogas fuels thousands of homes. This "Peccioli system" from the PIMBY (please in my back yard) concept, provides a sustainable European model.
