From Istanbul to Cairo: Stories of Modern Art
Journey to the West23 min
Available until 15/09/2028
Istanbul, Beirut, Baghdad, Cairo. From the end of the 19th century, artists from the Ottoman Empire set off for Europe to learn new techniques. But this journey brought them back to their roots, as oriental fantasies were all the rage in Europe. Gradually they began to define their region through their own eyes and invented an alternative modernity in the process.
