Semret lives a modest and isolated life in Zurich with her teenage daughter Joe. She works at a hospital and is applying to a midwife training programme. When her daughter starts to ask about her roots in Eritrea, Semret can no longer keep her past a secret and is forced to confront the trauma she has lived through.
