In the Caribbean, Haiti and the Dominican Republic share the island of Hispaniola. The poorest state in the Americas lies next door to one that is booming economically. Tens of thousands of Haitian workers, fleeing misery and chaos, cross the 380-kilometre long porous border between the two countries. But they are not welcomed with open arms.
