The highest peaks of the Andes are in the northern regions of Chile and Argentina, including the majestic Aconcagua, the tallest summit in the southern hemisphere. In the Argentinian province of Mendoza, vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see and in neighbouring Chile, the Atacama Desert is home to the ALMA observatory where scientists observe the universe through clear skies.
