Controversial waste management in Croatia

At the start of the year, the EU Court of Justice hit Croatia with a €1 million fine for failing to clear an illegal landfill packed with 140,000 tonnes of waste. And it’s not a one-off—Croatia consistently ranks among the EU’s worst performers in waste management, with illegal dumping and poor recycling still widespread.
