Canada and the EU: closer ties set to last?

There’s visible chemistry between Canada and Europe. Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada, attended the State of the Union address in Strasbourg this week – a first for a foreign head of government. There is talk of further rapprochement in what he has called a “unique alliance”. And with heated trade and geopolitical relations with its southern neighbour, Ottawa is keen to seek stability through partnerships elsewhere. But what could closer ties bring for both sides? And if they do go long-distance, are they in it for the long run – or might this prove to be a short-lived affair?
