When the prime minister of Albania announced at the UN in September 2024 the creation of the Sovereign State of the Bektashi Order, the world was surprised. The proposed microstate within the city boundaries of the Albanian capital, a sort of “Sufi Vatican”, is criticised by some inside Albania and internationally.
