1980s Sydney: Tom Allen, a recently widowed psychiatrist and practising Catholic, is raising his two children on his own. His new appointment as a lay confessor at the local seminary provokes the hostility of the ultra-conservative Monsignor Quaid. Tensions in the diocese escalate when a boy attending the same school as Tom’s son mysteriously disappears.
