Abortion: A Polish Paradox
57 min
Available until 11/06/2025
Poland today has amongst the strictest laws on abortion in Europe. But this was not always the case: Abortion was legal during the communist era from 1956, well before many Western countries, as women also took part in the workforce in many sectors. It was with the return of democracy, helped by the influential figure of Pope John Paul II, that the right for women to terminate pregnancy in Poland was curtailed. This documentary focuses on the paradoxical history of abortion in Poland.
