Melbourne, 1986: A rookie reporter and a seasoned newsreader join forces to further their careers.  This fast-paced drama shows the tensions and excitement of television news and production and casts a critical eye over Australian society of the time.

Melbourne, January 1986, backstage at the News at Six: young reporter Dale Jennings dreams of taking centre stage, while Helen Norville, host of the evening news, suffers from the chauvinistic attitudes of her co-host Geoff Walters, an old-fashioned journalist. When the producer asks Dale to team up with Helen to keep her ambitions in check, the young man accepts in the hope of getting a promotion. Their relationship turns into an uneasy alliance when the tragic news of the week breaks…
