Every year for 45 days, Uruguay lives to the rhythm of Carnival. In Montevideo, the capital, carnival traditions are taken very seriously: Candombe, the special carnival music and dance developed by Afro-Uruguayans, is a highly prized art form and is inscribed on UNSECO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
