On Sunday, June 24, 2012, the artist Adel Abdessemed organised a photo shoot featuring his body engulfed in flames. With this act, he harked back to the protests of Buddhist monks but also the beginning of the Arab Spring, when in 2010, the Tunisian vegetable vendor Mohamed Bouazizi set himself on fire to protest against police abuse.
