{"id":9019,"date":"2013-04-04T06:00:36","date_gmt":"2013-04-04T05:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/?p=9019"},"modified":"2015-08-07T19:10:29","modified_gmt":"2015-08-07T18:10:29","slug":"berberian-sound-studio-de-peter-strickland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/2013\/04\/04\/berberian-sound-studio-de-peter-strickland\/","title":{"rendered":"Berberian Sound Studio de Peter Strickland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hier est sorti en salles, distribu\u00e9 par Wild Side Films \/ Le Pacte, l\u2019une des sensations du nouveau cin\u00e9ma britannique : <em>Berberian Sound Studio<\/em> de Peter Strickland.<\/p>\n<p>Ce film a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couvert en premi\u00e8re mondiale au Festival d\u2019Edinbourg en Ecosse, puis en premi\u00e8re internationale au Festival del film Locarno l\u2019ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Il est ensuite devenu un des favoris des festivals du monde entier et de la presse anglo-saxonne qui n\u2019a pas h\u00e9sit\u00e9 \u00e0 le classer parmi les meilleurs films de 2012. Esp\u00e9rons que cet enthousiasme sera partag\u00e9 par les spectateurs fran\u00e7ais, car le deuxi\u00e8me long m\u00e9trage de Peter Strickland (apr\u00e8s le remarqu\u00e9 <em>Katalin Vargas<\/em> en 2009) participe au renouveau d\u2019un cin\u00e9ma anglais non directement social et r\u00e9aliste, aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s des films de Ben Weathley, Christopher Smith ou Neil Marshall. Les enfants de Michael Powell, Terence Fisher et Norman J. Warren.<\/p>\n<p><em>Berberian Sound Studio<\/em> propose une approche \u00e0 la fois tr\u00e8s originale et maniaque du monde du cin\u00e9ma en se d\u00e9roulant dans les coulisses de la postproduction d\u2019un \u00ab\u00a0giallo\u00a0\u00bb, soit un thriller horrifique tels qu\u2019ils \u00e9taient fabriqu\u00e9s \u00e0 la chaine dans les studios romains dans les ann\u00e9es 70. La quasi int\u00e9gralit\u00e9 du film se d\u00e9roule dans un studio d\u2019enregistrement miteux o\u00f9 un ing\u00e9nieur du son anglais, Gilderoy, a \u00e9t\u00e9 invit\u00e9 par la production pour fignoler la postsynchronisation d\u2019un film avec des sorci\u00e8res qui fait penser \u00e0 une version \u00ab\u00a0cheap\u00a0\u00bb de <em>Suspiria <\/em>de Dario Argento. Malgr\u00e9 sa r\u00e9pugnance pour son mat\u00e9riau de travail, Gilderoy se lance dans une qu\u00eate obsessionnelle du meilleur son possible alors que le film ne semble pr\u00e9tendre \u00e0 la moindre valeur artistique.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9021\" style=\"width: 3010px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/2013\/04\/1-Berberian-Sound-Studio.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9021\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9021\" src=\"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/2013\/04\/1-Berberian-Sound-Studio.jpg\" alt=\"Berberian Sound Studio\" width=\"3000\" height=\"2018\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/2013\/04\/1-Berberian-Sound-Studio.jpg 3000w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/2013\/04\/1-Berberian-Sound-Studio-416x280.jpg 416w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/2013\/04\/1-Berberian-Sound-Studio-1024x688.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/2013\/04\/1-Berberian-Sound-Studio-580x390.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 3000px) 100vw, 3000px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-9021\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Berberian Sound Studio<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Avec son univers claustrophobe et sa reconstitution \u00e0 la fois stylis\u00e9e et hyper-r\u00e9aliste (le tournage du film a dur\u00e9 quelques jours seulement, dans un studio anglais) du c\u00f4t\u00e9 obscur du cin\u00e9ma de genre italien, <em>Berberian Sound Studio<\/em> est un dr\u00f4le d\u2019objet, au statut ind\u00e9cidable, quelque part entre l\u2019installation d\u2019art contemporain et la nostalgie pour le cin\u00e9ma d\u2019exploitation europ\u00e9en. Le film d\u00e9montre, peut-\u00eatre \u00e0 son insu, que tout ce qu\u2019il y avait d\u2019inconsciemment exp\u00e9rimental dans la s\u00e9rie Z italienne, avec ses producteurs opportunistes et ses cin\u00e9astes apprentis sorciers est devenu aujourd\u2019hui le fond de commerce des galeristes et des vid\u00e9astes\u00a0: bidouillages sonores, distorsions, r\u00e9cup\u00e9rations. L\u2019une des sc\u00e8nes les plus \u00e9vocatrices de <em>Berberian Sound Studio<\/em> montre comment des assistants bruitent une sc\u00e8ne de meurtre en pulv\u00e9risant \u00e0 coups de hachoirs des past\u00e8ques bien juteuses. C\u2019est \u00e0 la fois vrai dans les faits (il me semble que c\u2019est avec la m\u00eame cucurbitac\u00e9e que Hitchcock obtint le bruit des coups de couteau pour la sc\u00e8ne de la douche de <em>Psychose<\/em>) et totalement \u00ab\u00a0arty\u00a0\u00bb \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran puisque la sc\u00e8ne vue par Strickland se transforme en \u00ab\u00a0happening\u00a0\u00bb, en performance audiovisuelle. C\u2019est la collision entre les ann\u00e9es 70 et les ann\u00e9es 2000. Mario Bava contre David Lynch, tout contre.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019appr\u00e9hension du cin\u00e9ma par le biais d\u2019une industrie artisanale qui accordait plus d\u2019importance \u00e0 la pulsion qu\u2019\u00e0 la signification (le cin\u00e9ma bis) et par le son (cris, feulements, soupirs, bruitages \u00e9lectroniques, donc l\u2019inverse d\u2019une pens\u00e9e et d\u2019une parole articul\u00e9es) est pertinente car elle renforce la dimension f\u00e9tichiste et anti-romantique de Strickland. En effet si les tournages de films, les coulisses de l\u2019usine \u00e0 r\u00eave (Hollywood ou Cinecitt\u00e0) ont \u00e9t\u00e9 de tr\u00e8s nombreuses fois montr\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran (d\u00e8s les ann\u00e9es 30), le bruitage d\u2019un film, sans doute jug\u00e9 gu\u00e8re romanesque, n\u2019avait jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 au c\u0153ur d\u2019un long m\u00e9trage. M\u00eame <em>Blow Out<\/em> de De Palma partait de la description d\u2019une profession de l\u2019ombre pour proposer une intrigue de thriller politique.<\/p>\n<p>Entrer dans<em> Berberian Sound Studio<\/em>, c\u2019est imaginer que Jack (John Travolta) ne quitte jamais sa cabine d\u2019enregistrement, \u00e0 la recherche du cri parfait pour un \u00ab\u00a0slasher\u00a0\u00bb d\u00e9bile que personne n\u2019ira voir. C\u2019est le destin de Gilderoy, embarqu\u00e9 dans une \u00e9trange aventure o\u00f9 il va mettre tout son talent et son professionnalisme au service d\u2019une cause d\u00e9risoire, douteuse, voire obsc\u00e8ne. La notion d\u2019enfermement est tr\u00e8s forte dans le film et Gilderoy, prisonnier d\u2019un espace clos aux limites floues est contraint, dans un pays et une langues inconnues, de rejouer infiniment les m\u00eames gestes\u00a0: c\u2019est le c\u00f4t\u00e9 supplice de Sisyphe de <em>Berberian Sound Studio<\/em>, film cauchemar qui ne se termine pas vraiment.
