Pourtant, il est possible de consid\u00e9rer cette anthologie onirique comme le testament artistique, esth\u00e9tique et moral du grand cin\u00e9aste.<br \/>\nDans <em>Kagemusha<\/em> et <em>Ran<\/em>, Kurosawa s\u2019\u00e9tait r\u00e9fugi\u00e9 dans des \u00e9vocations splendides et cr\u00e9pusculaires du temps des samoura\u00efs pour composer des \u0153uvres \u00e0 la beaut\u00e9 sid\u00e9rante. Ces chefs-d\u2019\u0153uvre imposants ont sans doute inspir\u00e9 \u00e0 Kurosawa un retour \u00e0 une mati\u00e8re beaucoup plus personnelle et intimiste, tout en conservant un caract\u00e8re visionnaire et pictural. Pour la premi\u00e8re fois de sa carri\u00e8re, Kurosawa s\u2019autorise \u00e0 parler de lui-m\u00eame, par l\u2019interm\u00e9diaire de huit r\u00eaves qu\u2019il a fait au cours de sa vie. Ce sera le film <em>R\u00eaves<\/em> (<em>Dreams\/Yume<\/em>), r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en 1990 (avec la collaboration d\u2019Ishiro Honda, sp\u00e9cialiste des effets sp\u00e9ciaux) et coproduit par Steven Spielberg (pour la version internationale). On y retrouve Kurosawa \u00e0 diff\u00e9rents \u00e2ges de sa vie, interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 par des com\u00e9diens diff\u00e9rents. Akira Kurosawa a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Quand il r\u00eave, l&rsquo;homme est un g\u00e9nie. Il est audacieux et intr\u00e9pide comme un g\u00e9nie. Voil\u00e0 ce a quoi je me suis attache au moment de filmer ces huit r\u00eaves. Pour faire un film de ce sc\u00e9nario, il \u00e9tait indispensable de s&rsquo;exprimer avec audace et sans peur&#8230; comme dans un r\u00eave.\u00a0\u00bb<br \/>\nLes deux premiers r\u00eaves, \u00ab\u00a0Soleil sous la pluie\u00a0\u00bb et \u00ab\u00a0Le Verger aux p\u00eachers\u00a0\u00bb, montrent le narrateur enfant observateur des myst\u00e8res de la nature et de ses habitants magiques. \u00ab\u00a0La Temp\u00eate de neige\u00a0\u00bb r\u00e9affirme la puissance fantastique des \u00e9l\u00e9ments naturels. \u00ab\u00a0Le Tunnel\u00a0\u00bb voit ressurgir les fant\u00f4mes des soldats sacrifi\u00e9s au combat et toute la culpabilit\u00e9 et le traumatisme du peuple japonais au sortir de la Seconde Guerre mondiale.\u00a0 \u00ab\u00a0Les Corbeaux\u00a0\u00bb est une profession de foi sur la cr\u00e9ation artistique dans laquelle Kurosawa convoque Vincent Van Gogh, qui prend les traits inattendus du r\u00e9alisateur Martin Scorsese. \u00ab\u00a0Le Mont Fuji en rouge\u00a0\u00bb et \u00ab\u00a0les D\u00e9mons g\u00e9missants\u00a0\u00bb sont des fables apocalyptiques sur un monde d\u00e9vast\u00e9 par des catastrophes \u00e9cologiques o\u00f9 les derniers hommes sont r\u00e9duits \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tat de cr\u00e9atures monstrueuses. \u00ab\u00a0Le Village des moulins \u00e0 eau\u00a0\u00bb conclut le film sur une note optimiste. Le narrateur visite un petit coin de la campagne japonaise, enti\u00e8rement pr\u00e9serv\u00e9 du progr\u00e8s et des inventions modernes, o\u00f9 les paysans vivent de joies simples au rythme des saisons. La nature joue un r\u00f4le important dans tous les r\u00eaves. Kurosawa d\u00e9plore son saccage par l\u2019homme et certains r\u00eaves sont des avertissements contre la pollution et le danger nucl\u00e9aire. Impossible de ne pas penser \u00e0 la r\u00e9cente catastrophe de Fukushima devant ces images de d\u00e9sastre et le cauchemar d\u2019une histoire vou\u00e9e \u00e0 se r\u00e9p\u00e9ter apr\u00e8s Hiroshima et Nagasaki (Kurosawa consacrera son film suivant, <em>Rhapsodie en ao\u00fbt<\/em>, au souvenir du bombardement de la ville de Nagasaki.)
