Edgar<\/em> de Clint Eastwood, <em>Raisons d\u2019\u00e9tat<\/em> de Robert De Niro\u2026 Au milieu de ces titres d\u00e9j\u00e0 tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rents les uns des autres, un film unique en son genre : <em>Le Dossier 51<\/em> (1978) de Michel Deville, diffus\u00e9 lundi 22 novembre \u00e0 23h15, \u00e9galement disponible gratuitement en t\u00e9l\u00e9vision de rattrapage sur ARTE.tv. Dans les ann\u00e9es 70, un courant parano\u00efaque et complotiste \u2013 un mot qui a chang\u00e9 de camp aujourd\u2019hui \u2013 se r\u00e9pand dans le thriller et le cin\u00e9ma politique grand public. Des \u00ab fictions de gauche \u00bb utilisent les codes du polar ou de l\u2019enqu\u00eate journalistique pour d\u00e9noncer des abus de pouvoir, des crimes ou des scandales dans les arcanes des institutions d\u2019\u00e9tat. Parmi cette tendance illustr\u00e9e en France par Costa-Gavras ou Yves Boisset, <em>Le Dossier 51<\/em> occupe une place particuli\u00e8re. Ce n\u2019est ni un d\u00e9calque des grands succ\u00e8s am\u00e9ricains, ni un film \u00e0 th\u00e8se dans la tradition europ\u00e9enne. Michel Deville adapte, avec la participation de l\u2019auteur, le roman d\u2019espionnage de Gilles Perrault publi\u00e9 en 1969. Le film comme le livre est constitu\u00e9 de notes, rapports d\u2019interrogatoires, de filatures et d\u2019\u00e9coutes de plusieurs \u00e9quipes de la m\u00eame myst\u00e9rieuse organisation, gouvernementale ou priv\u00e9e, dont l\u2019identit\u00e9 n\u2019est jamais pr\u00e9cis\u00e9e. Le but de cette enqu\u00eate est de d\u00e9voiler la moindre zone d\u2019ombre dans la vie d\u2019un diplomate fran\u00e7ais. La d\u00e9couverte d\u2019informations compromettantes pourrait devenir un moyen de chantage pour le contraindre de transmettre des informations confidentielles. Les diff\u00e9rentes techniques employ\u00e9es, des plus banales aux plus sophistiqu\u00e9es (pour l\u2019\u00e9poque) permettent d\u2019observer les agissements de cet homme, mais aussi de fouiller dans son pass\u00e9, sa m\u00e9moire et m\u00eame ses sentiments. C\u2019est v\u00e9ritablement au viol d\u2019une conscience, \u00e0 l\u2019an\u00e9antissement de l\u2019intimit\u00e9 d\u2019une personne mise \u00e0 nu que le spectateur assiste, impuissant et terrifi\u00e9, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la gla\u00e7ante conclusion. Plac\u00e9e du c\u00f4t\u00e9 des enqu\u00eateurs, la cam\u00e9ra de Deville enregistre avec froideur une proc\u00e9dure bureaucratique o\u00f9 la routine se teinte de cynisme. Des agents portent des noms de code emprunt\u00e9s \u00e0 la mythologie, ou bien sont d\u00e9sign\u00e9s par des num\u00e9ros. <em>Le Dossier 51<\/em> est enti\u00e8rement film\u00e9 en cam\u00e9ra subjective, souvent en plan-s\u00e9quence, en adoptant successivement les points de vue de plusieurs enqu\u00eateurs.
