L\u2019anti western mani\u00e9riste et ironique de Jim Jarmusch survient lorsque le genre est d\u00e9finitivement enterr\u00e9. Il ne s\u2019agit pas de le ressusciter mais de le prolonger au royaume des fant\u00f4mes et des esprits, dans un n\u00e9ant trimbal\u00e9 sur leur route par un homme blanc d\u00e9j\u00e0 mort et un Indien surnomm\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Personne\u00a0\u00bb. Grand film politique, <em>Dead Man<\/em> d\u00e9marre dans le bourbier infernal du capitalisme et de l\u2019industrialisation des \u00c9tats-Unis de la seconde moiti\u00e9 du XIX\u00e8me si\u00e8cle puis s\u2019\u00e9chappe dans les paysages grandioses de l\u2019ouest sauvage. Dans cette odyss\u00e9e hallucin\u00e9e d\u2019un petit comptable au pays de la violence, Jarmusch fait l\u2019\u00e9loge de la lenteur, choisit un rythme et un point de vue purement indiens. Le film est travers\u00e9 de visions sous psychotropes, et adopte une forme \u00e9pisodique qui lui permet d\u2019accueillir une pl\u00e9iade d\u2019acteurs fabuleux. C\u2019est la derni\u00e8re apparition de Robert Mitchum en homme d\u2019affaire irascible et lourdement arm\u00e9. Johnny Depp est g\u00e9nial dans le r\u00f4le de William Blake, homonyme malchanceux du po\u00e8te anglais. Somptueuse photographie en noir et blanc de Robby M\u00fcller. Jarmusch a r\u00e9ussi son <em>Apocalypse Now<\/em> miniature, son <em>Aguirre<\/em> version road movie. Aujourd\u2019hui les \u00e9toiles de Jim Jarmusch et Johnny Depp ont p\u00e2li. Si <em>Only Lovers Left Alive<\/em> et <em>Paterson<\/em> \u00e9taient des beaux films, <em>The Dead Don\u2019t Die<\/em> restera comme l\u2019un des pires ratages de l\u2019ann\u00e9e.
