Le film est la deuxi\u00e8me adaptation cin\u00e9matographique du roman \u00e9ponyme de Joseph Kessel, paru en 1923 et d\u00e9j\u00e0 port\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran par Maurice Tourneur en 1928. Situ\u00e9 dans la tourmente de la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale, au sein d\u2019une escadrille d\u2019aviateurs, le film est d\u2019abord un m\u00e9lodrame qui met en sc\u00e8ne le dilemme moral d\u2019un jeune militaire, d\u00e9chir\u00e9 entre l\u2019amour d\u2019une femme et le respect teint\u00e9 d\u2019amiti\u00e9 pour un officier plus \u00e2g\u00e9, \u00e9poux de sa ma\u00eetresse. Ce qui distingue <em>L\u2019\u00c9quipage<\/em> des autres films de guerre des ann\u00e9es 30, comme <em>Les Croix de bois<\/em> de Raymond Bernard avec lequel il partage l\u2019acteur Charles Vanel et des plans de sc\u00e8nes de batailles emprunt\u00e9es et int\u00e9gr\u00e9es au montage de Litvak, c\u2019est l\u2019importance accord\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019histoire d\u2019amour, forc\u00e9ment tragique et contrari\u00e9e. Le conflit n\u2019est finalement qu\u2019une toile de fond, m\u00eame si Litvak accorde beaucoup de soin aux s\u00e9quences de combat et de foule, et en particulier aux ballets a\u00e9riens, m\u00e9lange de prises de vue r\u00e9elles et de trucages en studio, proches de la r\u00e9ussite absolue des <em>Ailes<\/em> (1927) de William A. Wellman, r\u00e9f\u00e9rence encore aujourd\u2019hui dans ce domaine. Pour les amateurs du cin\u00e9ma des ann\u00e9es 30 Anatole Litvak est un cin\u00e9aste tr\u00e8s sous-estim\u00e9, et encore m\u00e9connu. Sa carri\u00e8re fran\u00e7aise n\u2019a pas la r\u00e9putation qu\u2019elle m\u00e9rite. Certains de ses films am\u00e9ricains ont rapidement acquis une juste notori\u00e9t\u00e9, mais ils n\u2019\u00e9galent pas forc\u00e9ment la puissance et l\u2019\u00e9motion de <em>L\u2019\u00c9quipage<\/em> ou <em>Mayerling<\/em>. Litvak a d\u2019ailleurs r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en 1937 un auto-remake hollywoodien de <em>L\u2019\u00c9quipage<\/em>, <em>La femme que j\u2019aime<\/em>, tr\u00e8s inf\u00e9rieur au film fran\u00e7ais de l\u2019avis g\u00e9n\u00e9ral. <em>L\u2019\u00c9quipage<\/em> force l\u2019admiration par l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9gance et l\u2019intelligence de sa mise en sc\u00e8ne, avec une utilisation remarquable de la musique de Chopin. Le film est construit autour d\u2019une s\u00e9rie d\u2019arrangements avec la v\u00e9rit\u00e9, qui lient les diff\u00e9rents protagonistes par des pactes secrets, provoquent des trag\u00e9dies ou att\u00e9nuent des souffrances. Dans les suppl\u00e9ments de qualit\u00e9s propos\u00e9s par le blu-ray, le critique Philippe Roger souligne l\u2019originalit\u00e9 et l\u2019audace de ce m\u00e9lodrame qui propose un \u00e9loge du mensonge, plut\u00f4t que de condamner les fautes morales de ses personnages. Charnel Vanel y est toujours aussi bon, entour\u00e9 des s\u00e9duisants Jean-Pierre Aumont et Annabella, une des plus fascinantes actrices du cin\u00e9ma fran\u00e7ais des ann\u00e9es 30.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Path\u00e9 permet de d\u00e9couvrir &#8211;
