Adaptation libre de trois nouvelles de Alice Munro, <em>Julieta<\/em>\u00a0appartient \u00e0 la veine sombre du cin\u00e9aste, qui lui a inspir\u00e9 ses meilleurs films. Almod\u00f3var s\u2019\u00e9loigne du m\u00e9lodrame pour signer une v\u00e9ritable trag\u00e9die des temps modernes, autour de th\u00e8mes qui lui sont chers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Julieta\u00a0<\/em>est un film sur la perte de l\u2019\u00eatre aim\u00e9, l\u2019absence, le deuil et le sentiment de culpabilit\u00e9 au travers d\u2019une douloureuse relation entre une m\u00e8re et sa fille, d\u00e9chir\u00e9e par une rupture aussi violente qu\u2019absolue et ind\u00e9chiffrable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Autant de th\u00e8mes que Almod\u00f3var a d\u00e9j\u00e0 abord\u00e9 par le pass\u00e9 \u2013 et en particulier dans\u00a0<em>Volver<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 mais il le fait ici sur le mode de l\u2019\u00e9pure et de l\u2019abstraction, sans pour autant renoncer aux arabesques formelles et narratives, aux recherches chromatiques et \u00e0 la virtuosit\u00e9 du r\u00e9cit qui sont la marque de son cin\u00e9ma.\u00a0<em>Julieta <\/em>est peut-\u00eatre le premier film de Almod\u00f3var qui ne contient pas la moindre trace d\u2019humour et de fantaisie. Loin du bruit et de la fureur de certains de ses films pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents, o\u00f9 les passions joyeuses ou fun\u00e8bres \u00e9clataient avec violence,\u00a0<em>Julieta<\/em>\u00a0est un film murmur\u00e9, sanglot\u00e9, sans \u00e9clats de voix, toujours dans la r\u00e9tention. Ce retrait volontaire d\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9ments majeurs de son cin\u00e9ma confirme que le cin\u00e9aste a voulu donner une approche tragique \u00e0 son histoire. C\u2019est soulign\u00e9 d\u00e8s le d\u00e9but du premier retour en arri\u00e8re o\u00f9 la jeune Julieta, professeure de litt\u00e9rature, lit un essai sur la trag\u00e9die grecque dans un train. Le film avance par r\u00e9p\u00e9titions et d\u00e9doublements, expose ses protagonistes \u00e0 un \u00e9ternel retour du malheur, sans pour autant les condamner ni les juger. La sc\u00e8ne finale, impr\u00e9visible et bouleversante, conteste le poids de la fatalit\u00e9 et offre une chance de nouveau d\u00e9part \u00e0 la m\u00e8re et \u00e0 la fille.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Le d\u00e9cor artificiel du wagon, l\u2019utilisation de transparences d\u00e9lib\u00e9r\u00e9ment visibles, la stylisation des couleurs renvoient \u00e0 une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence importante dans\u00a0<em>Julieta<\/em>\u00a0: le cin\u00e9ma d\u2019Alfred Hitchcock. L\u2019apparition de la gouvernante aust\u00e8re et jalouse interpr\u00e9t\u00e9e par Rossy de Palma est un citation directe du personnage de Mrs Danvers dans\u00a0<em>Rebecca<\/em>. La cr\u00e9ation m\u00eame du personnage de Julieta, interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 par Adriana Ugarte et Emma Su\u00e1rez, deux actrices diff\u00e9rentes et assez dissemblables, \u00e9voque le motif d\u00e9miurgique de\u00a0<em>Vertigo<\/em>. Comme Hitchcock, Almod\u00f3var se r\u00e9v\u00e8le capable, par la puissance expressive de ses cadres et ses mouvements de cam\u00e9ra, d\u2019exprimer la complexit\u00e9 des sentiments de ses personnages. Les couleurs jouent aussi un r\u00f4le important dans la dramaturgie du film, avec un emploi saisissant du rouge, dans des \u00e0-plats monochromes qui envahissent l\u2019\u00e9cran ou des d\u00e9tails signifiants.
