Le r\u00e9alisateur italien s\u2019empare d\u2019une histoire de fant\u00f4mes, dans un cadre gothique alors \u00e0 la mode des deux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de l\u2019Atlantique, pour mettre en sc\u00e8ne une \u0153uvre profond\u00e9ment personnelle, qui d\u00e9finit sa conception du fantastique. <em>Le Corps et le Fouet<\/em> se pr\u00e9sente comme un effort pour att\u00e9nuer le folklore d\u00e9coratif et les poncifs attach\u00e9s \u00e0 ce type de production et proposer une approche moderne des r\u00e9cits horrifiques dans des manoirs hant\u00e9s. Le film se concentre sur une \u00e9tude f\u00e9minine, celle de Nevenka (Daliah Lavi), belle jeune femme sous l\u2019emprise de son amant et beau-fr\u00e8re Kurt (Christopher Lee), un \u00eatre odieux et sadique, honte de cette famille d\u2019aristocrates. Cette relation morbide se poursuit apr\u00e8s l\u2019assassinat myst\u00e9rieux de Kurt, et Nevenka est victime des assauts de ce dernier qui l\u2019agresse et la fouette la nuit dans sa chambre, tandis que les meurtres se poursuivent dans le ch\u00e2teau. Les sc\u00e8nes de flagellation assirent la r\u00e9putation sulfureuse du <em>Corps et le fouet<\/em>, longtemps consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme un paragon du sadomasochisme \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran. Le film surprend et s\u00e9duit davantage aujourd\u2019hui par sa dimension mentale. C\u2019est une plong\u00e9e dans la psych\u00e9 de son h\u00e9ro\u00efne \u00e0 laquelle nous invite Bava. Le cin\u00e9aste se pla\u00eet \u00e0 entretenir la confusion entre r\u00eave et r\u00e9alit\u00e9, fantasmes sexuels et hallucinations. Les manifestations surnaturelles sont des \u00e9manations de l\u2019esprit troubl\u00e9 de Nevenka. Le film tout entier, avec son d\u00e9corum angoissant et ses variations chromatiques insens\u00e9es devient une projection de la folie de Nevenka, qui bascule dans la psychose criminelle. Les plans o\u00f9 la cam\u00e9ra de Bava scrute le visage de Daliah Lavi poss\u00e8dent une po\u00e9sie qui combine un lyrisme d\u00e9cadent \u00e0 la Edgar Allan Poe et l\u2019approche c\u00e9r\u00e9brale d\u2019une \u00e9tude clinique. Avec <em>Le Corps et le Fouet<\/em>, Mario Bava a sign\u00e9 son <em>Ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re \u00e0 Marienbad<\/em>, un film-cerveau destin\u00e9 aux salles de quartier.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Le Corps et le Fouet<\/em> est disponible en combo DVD plus Blu-ray plus livret de 16 pages, accompagn\u00e9 aussi d\u2019int\u00e9ressants suppl\u00e9ments critiques, \u00e9dit\u00e9 par ESC.
