{"id":19797,"date":"2017-01-02T20:41:08","date_gmt":"2017-01-02T19:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/?p=19797"},"modified":"2020-04-17T08:07:23","modified_gmt":"2020-04-17T07:07:23","slug":"airport-de-george-seaton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/2017\/01\/02\/airport-de-george-seaton\/","title":{"rendered":"Airport de George Seaton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ARTE diffuse <em>Airport <\/em>(1970) de George Seaton dimanche 8 janvier \u00e0 20h50.<\/p>\n<p>Si l\u2019appellation de \u00ab\u00a0nouvel Hollywood\u00a0\u00bb est sujette \u00e0 discussion, elle d\u00e9signe une br\u00e8ve p\u00e9riode dans l\u2019histoire du cin\u00e9ma am\u00e9ricain, et un groupe de jeunes cin\u00e9astes qui ont bouscul\u00e9 les habitudes des studios, obtenant gloire et succ\u00e8s avec des films audacieux et novateurs.<\/p>\n<p>Cependant, au m\u00eame moment a exist\u00e9 un \u00ab\u00a0vieil Hollywood\u00a0\u00bb, p\u00e9riode transitoire o\u00f9 l\u2019industrie am\u00e9ricaine et ses figures historiques (producteurs, r\u00e9alisateurs, acteurs) ont essay\u00e9 de s\u2019adapter tant bien que mal \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9volution du march\u00e9 tout en perp\u00e9tuant une conception conservatrice du divertissement hollywoodien. La Cin\u00e9math\u00e8que fran\u00e7aise consacre actuellement (et jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 25 janvier) un cycle passionnant intitul\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Hollywood d\u00e9cadent\u00a0\u00bb, sur cette phase agonique des studios am\u00e9ricains pr\u00eats \u00e0 tous les exc\u00e8s financiers pour lutter contre la concurrence d\u00e9loyale de la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision, avec des r\u00e9sultats parfois aberrants ou artistiquement schizophr\u00e8nes, partag\u00e9s entre un d\u00e9sir de modernit\u00e9 et des r\u00e9flexes r\u00e9actionnaires. Ce n\u2019est pas un hasard si la vieillesse, la pathologie, la catastrophe occupent une place primordiale dans ces productions qui furent parfois des chefs-d\u2019\u0153uvre malades de grands cin\u00e9astes v\u00e9t\u00e9rans, ou de somptueux d\u00e9sastres.<em> Airport<\/em> n\u2019est ni l\u2019un ni l\u2019autre, mais il demeure symptomatique de ce \u00ab\u00a0vieil Hollywood\u00a0\u00bb qui allait se r\u00e9inventer, apr\u00e8s le p\u00e9plum biblique et autres superproductions historiques, dans le film catastrophe. Ici le format 70mm, l\u2019\u00e9cran large, les effets sp\u00e9ciaux et les grands moyens ne sont pas mis au service de la reconstitution de civilisations anciennes et de batailles c\u00e9l\u00e8bres, mais \u00e0 la glorification d\u2019une mythologie propre au XX\u00e8me si\u00e8cle : l\u2019a\u00e9roport. Le film glorifie l\u2019architecture moderne de la vaste construction, la technologie de pointe des avions de ligne \u2013 apologie de la solidit\u00e9 du Boeing 707 tout en en soulignant la vanit\u00e9 devant les forces de la nature \u2013 une temp\u00eate de neige menace le bon fonctionnement de l\u2019a\u00e9roport \u2013 et la folie des hommes \u2013 un d\u00e9traqu\u00e9 parvient \u00e0 embarquer \u00e0 bord du vol pour Rome avec une bombe. <em>Airport<\/em> offre le spectacle d\u2019un d\u00e9fil\u00e9 de trois g\u00e9n\u00e9rations de vedettes et entrelace plusieurs histoires sentimentales, rivalit\u00e9s masculines et crises conjugales en respectant une unit\u00e9 de temps et d\u2019espace. La recette est celle des prestigieux films choraux hollywoodiens du genre de <em>Grand H\u00f4tel<\/em> (1932) transpos\u00e9e dans un a\u00e9roport, avec comme protagonistes les diff\u00e9rents corps de m\u00e9tiers, de la base au sommet, qui font vivre ce microcosme social. Le routinier George Seaton est en charge des sc\u00e8nes d\u2019int\u00e9rieurs et de la direction d\u2019acteurs, dignes d\u2019un soap op\u00e9ra de luxe, tandis que Henry Hathaway, excellent cin\u00e9aste d\u2019action, a dirig\u00e9 (sans en \u00eatre cr\u00e9dit\u00e9 au g\u00e9n\u00e9rique) les sc\u00e8nes d\u2019ext\u00e9rieurs dans la neige, plus mouvement\u00e9es. <em>Airport<\/em> n\u2019accorde aux effets sp\u00e9ciaux qu\u2019une portion congrue, et pr\u00e9f\u00e8re se concentrer sur les drames humains. Autres temps, le poseur de bombe n\u2019est pas un terroriste mais un ch\u00f4meur vieillissant, interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 par Van Heflin dans son dernier r\u00f4le, et il \u00e9tait encore permis de fumer dans un avion. Burt Lancaster (le directeur de l\u2019a\u00e9roport) et Dean Martin (un pilote) ont des \u00e9pouses acari\u00e2tres et respectivement 24 et 27 ans de plus que leurs ma\u00eetresses \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cran, Jean Seberg (responsable du service client\u00e8le) et Jacqueline Bisset (une h\u00f4tesse de l\u2019air). Tout au long des ann\u00e9es 70, plusieurs films catastrophes vont respecter le cahier des charges imagin\u00e9 par <em>Airport<\/em>, en insistant davantage sur les morts violentes et les destructions mat\u00e9rielles (<em>L\u2019Aventure du Pos\u00e9idon<\/em>, <em>La Tour infernale<\/em>). <em>Airport<\/em> conna\u00eetra trois suites indirectes, avec leur cort\u00e8ge d\u2019\u00e9motions fortes, d\u2019acteurs \u00e0 moumoute, de personnages st\u00e9r\u00e9otyp\u00e9es et de \u00ab\u00a0guest stars\u00a0\u00bb en pr\u00e9retraite, moins r\u00e9ussies que le premier film, qui a le m\u00e9rite de rester digne, d\u2019offrir de belles s\u00e9quences atmosph\u00e9riques et de ne pas sombrer dans le comique involontaire.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ARTE diffuse Airport (1970) de George Seaton dimanche 8 janvier \u00e0 20h50.
