L\u2019occasion de revoir un film longtemps d\u00e9cri\u00e9 \u2013 pour sa volont\u00e9 de se raccrocher au mouvement hippie et \u00e0 la contestation juv\u00e9nile &#8211; qui s\u2019impose d\u00e9sormais comme l\u2019un des chefs-d\u2019\u0153uvre d\u2019Antonioni, bien plus impressionnant sur le plan de sa mise en sc\u00e8ne que de ses id\u00e9es politiques.<\/p>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s le triomphe critique et commercial de <em>Blow Up<\/em> dans le monde entier, Antonioni re\u00e7oit de la part de la MGM une invitation pour r\u00e9aliser son film suivant aux Etats-Unis, avec un budget de superproduction et une carte blanche artistique. Le r\u00e9sultat d\u00e9clenchera la col\u00e8re des financiers am\u00e9ricains et d\u00e9routera le public jeune auquel il \u00e9tait cens\u00e9 s\u2019adresser.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18685\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18685\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18685\" src=\"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/zabriskie-point.jpg\" alt=\"Zabriskie Point de Michelangelo Antonioni\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-18685\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Zabriskie Point de Michelangelo Antonioni<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s un premier film tourn\u00e9 hors de l\u2019Italie, le londonien <em>Blow Up<\/em>, Antonioni choisit de radicaliser sa d\u00e9marche de cin\u00e9aste et de voyageur. <em>Zabriskie Point <\/em>est un tableau de l\u2019Am\u00e9rique contemporaine, d\u2019une prodigieuse beaut\u00e9 plastique. Ce road movie \u00e0 l\u2019intrigue minimaliste mais aux images ultra spectaculaires, qui se ballade entre ciel et terre, ville (Los Angeles) et d\u00e9sert (le fameux <em>Zabriskie Point<\/em> du titre), logorrh\u00e9e (la r\u00e9union d\u2019\u00e9tudiants qui ouvre le film) et silence et avant tout un trip mental qui permet \u00e0 Antonioni de poursuivre ses recherches de coloriste. Le cin\u00e9aste peintre s\u2019y montre de plus en plus teint\u00e9 par l\u2019abstraction, les exp\u00e9riences sensorielles et les innovations techniques sid\u00e9rantes \u2013 les explosions finales au ralenti, sur fond de Pink Floyd.<\/p>\n<p><em>Zabriskie Point<\/em> part \u00e0 la rencontre de la jeunesse am\u00e9ricaine mais aussi des immensit\u00e9s d\u00e9sertiques de la Vall\u00e9e de la Mort, regard critique d&rsquo;un artiste Italien sur les \u00c9tats-Unis, sa soci\u00e9t\u00e9 consum\u00e9riste, sa violence mais aussi son cin\u00e9ma. Le film est une variation, aussi bien th\u00e9matique que visuelle sur <em>La Mort aux trousses<\/em> : confusion autour du meurtre d\u2019un policier lors d\u2019une manifestation estudiantine, innocent en fuite, la silhouette d\u2019un avion dans le d\u00e9sert, un couple minuscule perdu dans un paysage montagneux, une luxueuse villa encastr\u00e9e dans la roche, et m\u00eame l\u2019acteur Rod Taylor vu dans <em>Les Oiseaux<\/em>. L\u2019\u0153uvre d&rsquo;Antonioni entretient avec celle de Hitchcock une \u00e9trange et fascinante relation qui pourrait r\u00e9sumer celle qui lie le cin\u00e9ma moderne au cin\u00e9ma classique, et illustrer la crise de l\u2019image action th\u00e9oris\u00e9e par Deleuze : elle n\u2019a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 aussi \u00e9vidente que dans <em>Zabriskie Point<\/em>, dont la c\u00e9l\u00e8bre conclusion explosive et hallucinatoire renvoie aux plans urbanistiques d\u00e9sert\u00e9s par la figure humaine de <em>L\u2019Eclipse<\/em>, et \u00e0 la partie de tennis all\u00e9gorique de <em>Blow Up<\/em>.
