{"id":18241,"date":"2016-04-02T19:02:57","date_gmt":"2016-04-02T18:02:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/?p=18241"},"modified":"2020-04-13T15:31:34","modified_gmt":"2020-04-13T14:31:34","slug":"m-de-joseph-losey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/2016\/04\/02\/m-de-joseph-losey\/","title":{"rendered":"M de Joseph Losey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sidonis vient d\u2019\u00e9diter en blu-ray <em>M<\/em> (1951) de Joseph Losey\u00a0: une bonne action qui permet de red\u00e9couvrir et de r\u00e9\u00e9valuer un film rare et tr\u00e8s sous-estim\u00e9 dans l\u2019\u0153uvre de Joseph Losey. <em>M<\/em> est le troisi\u00e8me des cinq longs m\u00e9trages r\u00e9alis\u00e9s par Losey aux Etats-Unis, entre 1947 et 1951, avant son exil forc\u00e9 vers l\u2019Europe, caus\u00e9 par le Maccarthysme. Quatre de ses cinq titres sont des films noir, genre auquel appartient <em>M<\/em>. Le film de Losey a longtemps p\u00e2ti de son statut de remake d\u2019un immense classique de l\u2019histoire du cin\u00e9ma, <em>M le maudit<\/em> r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en Allemagne vingt ans plus t\u00f4t par Fritz Lang. Losey lui-m\u00eame n\u2019accepta qu\u2019\u00e0 contrec\u0153ur cette proposition du producteur Harold Nebenzal, le fils de Seymour Nebenzal qui avait produit le film original. Losey avait besoin de travailler \u00e0 une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 il commen\u00e7ait \u00e0 \u00eatre inqui\u00e9t\u00e9 par la commission des activit\u00e9s anti-am\u00e9ricaines. <em>M<\/em> reprend avec fid\u00e9lit\u00e9 le sc\u00e9nario et les principales s\u00e9quences du film de Lang mais la transposition de l\u2019histoire dans le Los Angeles des ann\u00e9es 50 apporte un \u00e9clairage nouveau \u00e0 la traque du tueur d\u2019enfants. Contrairement \u00e0 Lang, Losey tourne son film en d\u00e9cors naturels, tirant le maximum de profit des ambiances urbaines des quartiers populaires de Los Angeles. Rues anonymes, chambres d\u2019h\u00f4tels, parkings, galeries commerciales constituent les espaces, \u00e0 la fois triviaux et stylis\u00e9s, brillamment mis en sc\u00e8ne, de cette trag\u00e9die moderne. Le climat d\u2019hyst\u00e9rie collective et de lynchage provoqu\u00e9 par la menace invisible du tueur d\u2019enfants \u00e9voque la sinistre \u00ab\u00a0chasse aux sorci\u00e8res\u00a0\u00bb men\u00e9e par les agents gouvernementaux contre les communistes am\u00e9ricains et autres sympathisants de gauche. Losey choisit de faire du meurtrier un schizophr\u00e8ne \u00e0 l\u2019allure de monsieur tout le monde, silhouette banale noy\u00e9e dans la foule \u00e0 la diff\u00e9rence de la caract\u00e9risation monstrueuse et g\u00e9niale impos\u00e9e par Peter Lorre dans le film de Lang. Cela n\u2019emp\u00eache pas David Wayne d\u2019\u00eatre remarquable, bien entour\u00e9 par une pl\u00e9iade d\u2019excellents com\u00e9diens, souvent issus du de la sc\u00e8ne th\u00e9\u00e2trale comme Losey. Il est difficile d\u2019\u00e9chapper au jeu des comparaisons, et pourtant <em>M <\/em>de Losey est un grand film, un des meilleurs de la p\u00e9riode am\u00e9ricaine de son auteur, au-del\u00e0 de son statut ingrat de remake et de commande. A l\u2019instar des autres \u00ab\u00a0noir\u00a0\u00bb de Losey c\u2019est un film sec et tendu, aux r\u00e9sonnances politiques \u00e9videntes, mais qui ne sacrifie jamais au discours l\u2019action et la dramaturgie. Une le\u00e7on de mise en sc\u00e8ne, tout simplement.
