Comme pour Frank Tashlin jadis, l\u2019Am\u00e9rique n\u2019a pas appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 trop longtemps de voir des impulsions satiriques (et sadiques) parasiter le divertissement attendu. Joe Dante persiste \u00e0 faire un cin\u00e9ma r\u00e9f\u00e9rentiel presque trop culturel pour le public du samedi soir, trop personnel pour les studios, et pas assez s\u00e9rieux pour la critique. Ses films sont toujours subversifs, irr\u00e9v\u00e9rencieux, \u00e9chappent au formatage. Ils ne sacrifient jamais \u00e0 la s\u00e9duction du spectateur et \u00e0 sa satisfaction imm\u00e9diate : un film comme <em>Gremlins<\/em> ne racole pas, et\u00a0 dissimule sous les couleurs acidul\u00e9es et criardes du dessin anim\u00e9, du conte de No\u00ebl et du r\u00e9cit d\u2019\u00e9pouvante un projet satirique, une vision caustique de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 du spectacle que Dante est parvenu \u00e0 critiquer de l\u2019int\u00e9rieur. <em>Gremlins<\/em>, r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en 1984, son seul v\u00e9ritable triomphe commercial, est aussi une des r\u00e9ussites les plus \u00e9clatantes du syst\u00e8me Dante\u00a0: un r\u00e9cit \u00e0 plusieurs niveaux de lecture, une d\u00e9claration d\u2019amour \u00e0 la s\u00e9rie B et au fantastique, un art tr\u00e8s subtil de la citation, une parabole sur la place du spectateur et le rapport au cin\u00e9ma dans notre inconscient et notre vie quotidienne.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial;font-size: 10pt\">Dans <em>Gremlins<\/em> Dante traite \u00e0 \u00e9galit\u00e9 ses deux th\u00e8mes de pr\u00e9dilection : la cin\u00e9philie et la politique. Que serait le cin\u00e9ma de Dante sans cette moquerie du d\u00e9lire parano\u00efaque et de la peur de l\u2019autre qui alimente la menace anarchique des <em>Gremlins<\/em> sur une petite ville mod\u00e8le de la province am\u00e9ricaine\u00a0?<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial;font-size: 10pt\">\u00ab\u00a0Cr\u00e9atures fantastiques et imaginaire cin\u00e9philique\u00a0\u00bb, tels pourraient \u00eatre le sous-titre (et le programme) de <em>Gremlins<\/em>, qui pratique un v\u00e9ritable art de la citation\u00a0: <em>L\u2019Invasion de profanateurs de s\u00e9pultures<\/em>, <em>Dracula<\/em>, <em>Blanche-Neige et les sept nains<\/em>, mais surtout <em>La vie est belle<\/em>, le chef-d\u2019\u0153uvre de Frank Capra, dont Dante reproduit plusieurs sc\u00e8nes et s\u2019inspire pour la description d\u2019une petite communaut\u00e9 provinciale. La crise \u00e9conomique et la malfaisance d\u2019un riche industriel qui d\u00e9vastent le paysage urbain et la douceur de vivre de la bourgade sont remplac\u00e9es par la m\u00e9chancet\u00e9 et la violence des bestioles, mais les effets (et la structure \u00ab\u00a0avant-apr\u00e8s\u00a0\u00bb) sont les m\u00eames.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial;font-size: 10pt\">Dans <em>La vie est belle<\/em>, James Stewart, le soir de No\u00ebl, songe \u00e0 se suicider. Dans <em>Gremlins<\/em>, des petits monstres s\u00e8ment la pagaille et tuent plusieurs personnes durant les f\u00eates de No\u00ebl.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: arial;font-size: 10pt\">En cette saison, il m\u2019est impossible de ne pas penser \u00e0 ces deux films.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial;font-size: 10pt\">Blake Edwards, autre grand satiriste (dans un autre registre) est mort le 16 d\u00e9cembre.
