Dans les ann\u00e9es 40, \u00e0 Los Angeles, Bucky Bleichert (Josh Hartnett) et Lee Blanchard (Aaron Eckhart), deux inspecteurs de police, s&rsquo;attaquent \u00e0 une affaire de meurtre particuli\u00e8rement difficile. Une starlette, Elizabeth Short (Mia Kirshner, photo en t\u00eate de texte), a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couverte atrocement mutil\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14744\" style=\"width: 1210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14744\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14744\" src=\"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/fr\/olivierpere\/files\/dahlia-noir-2006-08-g.jpg\" alt=\"Josh Hartnett et Scarlett Johansson dans Le Dahlia noir\" width=\"1200\" height=\"797\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/dahlia-noir-2006-08-g.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/dahlia-noir-2006-08-g-422x280.jpg 422w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/dahlia-noir-2006-08-g-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/dahlia-noir-2006-08-g-580x385.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-14744\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Josh Hartnett et Scarlett Johansson dans Le Dahlia noir<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A la fin des ann\u00e9es 90 et aux d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 2000 Brian De Palma, le plus flamboyant et tortur\u00e9 des cin\u00e9astes am\u00e9ricains de sa g\u00e9n\u00e9ration subit plusieurs \u00e9checs publics et critiques d\u2019affil\u00e9e aux Etats-Unis avant de r\u00e9aliser <em>Femme fatale<\/em>, un interm\u00e8de fran\u00e7ais passionnant par ses aspects exp\u00e9rimentaux mais peu enclin \u00e0 le r\u00e9concilier avec les sommets du box-office. <em>Le Dahlia noir<\/em>, adaptation du c\u00e9l\u00e8bre roman de James Ellroy, reprise des mains de David Fincher, trop attendue par les admirateurs du romancier et du cin\u00e9aste, marqua sans doute un point de non-retour dans la relation amour haine entre l\u2019auteur de <em>Blow Out<\/em> et Hollywood. Contraint de tourner ce projet ambitieux pour une compagnie ind\u00e9pendante \u2013 Millenium \/ Nu Image \u2013 connue pour ses films d\u2019exploitation tourn\u00e9s en Europe, dans des studios bulgares et avec des financements franco-allemands, De Palma peine \u00e0 retrouver les fastes et la virtuosit\u00e9 de son cin\u00e9ma.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019adaptation cin\u00e9matographique du g\u00e9nial roman de Ellroy est discutable, allant jusqu\u2019\u00e0 rendre l\u2019histoire parfois incompr\u00e9hensible. L\u2019interpr\u00e9tation est in\u00e9gale. Avare ici en morceaux de bravoure qui firent sa r\u00e9putation, De Palma se rattrape sur la v\u00e9n\u00e9neuse r\u00e9v\u00e9lation finale associant vice, meurtre et fondation de Hollywood et sur un triple assassinat dans une cage d\u2019escalier, digne d\u2019un \u00ab\u00a0giallo\u00a0\u00bb de Lucio Fulci.<\/p>\n<p><em>In fine, le cin\u00e9aste s\u2019approprie cette commande pas seulement par des effets de style reconnaissables entre tous mais surtout par une perversit\u00e9 et une lucidit\u00e9 politique \u00e0 l\u2019\u0153uvre dans ses plus grandes r\u00e9ussites. Les essais d\u2019actrice de Elizabeth Short film\u00e9s en noir et blanc inclus dans le film, ajout personnel de De Palma au sc\u00e9nario \u2013 avec l\u2019extrait de L\u2019homme qui rit &#8211; est une (bonne) id\u00e9e et une autocitation de <\/em><em>Murder \u00e0 la Mod<\/em> (1967) deuxi\u00e8me long m\u00e9trage de Brian De Palma, alors \u00e2g\u00e9 de 27 ans. Plus \u00e9tonnant encore, la s\u00e9quence finale de <em>Redacted<\/em> le film suivant de De Palma \u2013 l\u2019apparition longtemps diff\u00e9r\u00e9e d\u2019un cadavre de femme horriblement mutil\u00e9 et un couple enlac\u00e9 \u2013 est un copier-coller de celle du <em>Dahlia noir<\/em>.
