{"id":13934,"date":"2014-10-11T11:03:59","date_gmt":"2014-10-11T10:03:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/?p=13934"},"modified":"2014-10-11T11:05:16","modified_gmt":"2014-10-11T10:05:16","slug":"rhapsodie-en-trois-bandes-de-alan-clarke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/2014\/10\/11\/rhapsodie-en-trois-bandes-de-alan-clarke\/","title":{"rendered":"Rhapsodie en trois bandes de Alan Clarke"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tandis qu\u2019ARTE salue la com\u00e9die musicale en diffusant les dimanches soirs des classiques du genre, int\u00e9ressons-nous \u00e0 la nouvelle salve de parutions de DVD chez Elephant qui propose au contraire quelques raret\u00e9s et curiosit\u00e9s postmodernes produites \u00e0 une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 la com\u00e9die musicale n\u2019a plus d\u2019existence r\u00e9elle et a perdu son fid\u00e8le public, \u00e0 Hollywood ou ailleurs \u2013 \u00e0 l\u2019exception notable de l\u2019Inde : <em>Folie-Folie<\/em> de Stanley Donen, <em>Bugsy Malone<\/em> de Alan Parker, <em>Susie et les Baker Boys<\/em> de Steve Kloves et le plus m\u00e9connu des quatre <em>Rhapsodie en trois bandes <\/em>de Alan Clarke, totalement in\u00e9dit en France et \u00e0 peine diffus\u00e9 dans son pays d\u2019origine l\u2019Angleterre.<\/p>\n<p>Derri\u00e8re ce titre \u00e9trange se dissimule le non moins \u00e9tonnant <em>Billy the Kid and the Green Baize Vampire<\/em>, r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en 1987 par le grand Alan Clarke, admir\u00e9 pour ses formidables drames sociaux tourn\u00e9s pour la BBC, disparu pr\u00e9matur\u00e9ment en 1990 un an apr\u00e8s avoir tourn\u00e9 son chef-d\u2019\u0153uvre exp\u00e9rimental <em>Elephant<\/em> qui inspirera Gus Van Sant.<\/p>\n<p><em><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-13936\" src=\"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/fr\/olivierpere\/files\/greenbaize9-large.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"487\" height=\"343\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/greenbaize9-large.jpg 487w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/greenbaize9-large-397x280.jpg 397w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/greenbaize9-large-212x150.jpg 212w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/greenbaize9-large-435x306.jpg 435w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/greenbaize9-large-280x197.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 487px) 100vw, 487px\" \/>Rhapsodie en trois bandes<\/em> poss\u00e8de les atouts de l\u2019ovni absolu\u00a0: il s\u2019agit d\u2019un op\u00e9ra rock autour d\u2019une comp\u00e9tition de billard opposant dans les bas-fonds londoniens un jeune prol\u00e9taire surnomm\u00e9 Billy the Kid et le champion en titre Maxwell Randall qui dort dans un cercueil et se montre en public d\u00e9guis\u00e9 en vampire. Nos voisins britanniques sont vraiment les princes du kitsch et du mauvais go\u00fbt, et il est difficile d\u2019imaginer plus aberrant que ces joutes musicales autour d\u2019une table de billard, dans des lumi\u00e8res blafardes et une esth\u00e9tique agressive \u00e9voquant aussi bien les polars et les films d\u2019horreur glauques tourn\u00e9s en Angleterre la d\u00e9cennie pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente que <em>Orange m\u00e9canique<\/em> de Stanley Kubrick ou <em>Tommy<\/em> de Ken Russell. Dans les commentaires accompagnant le DVD Jean-Pierre Dionnet a raison de pr\u00e9ciser que le film, au-del\u00e0 de son excentricit\u00e9 manifeste, s\u2019inscrit dans une tendance \u00e0 la fois savante et populaire tr\u00e8s ancr\u00e9e dans la culture anglo-saxonne, la com\u00e9die musicale \u00e0 caract\u00e8re social, illustr\u00e9e au th\u00e9\u00e2tre ou au cin\u00e9ma par des personnalit\u00e9s aussi diverses Gilbert et Sullivan au XIX\u00e8me si\u00e8cle ou Dennis Potter au XX\u00e8me si\u00e8cle.<\/p>\n<p><em><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13937\" src=\"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/fr\/olivierpere\/files\/billy2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/billy2.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/billy2-497x280.jpg 497w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/billy2-266x150.jpg 266w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/billy2-435x244.jpg 435w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/billy2-280x157.jpg 280w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/billy2-560x315.jpg 560w, https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/billy2-580x326.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Rhapsodie en trois bandes <\/em>n\u2019est pas un simple d\u00e9lire tournant en d\u00e9rision les clich\u00e9s du film de gangsters ou de vampires. Comme dans ses autres films Alan Clarke ausculte sans aucune piti\u00e9 les ann\u00e9es Thatcher et montre, \u00e0 l\u2019occasion d\u2019un duel sportif, la haine de classe entre une (petite) bourgeoisie arrogante, bouffie d\u2019autosatisfaction et en pleine ascension sociale (Maxwell Randall et ses supporters) et le lumpen prol\u00e9tariat des faubourgs (Billy le kid et sa bande de hooligans, nouveaux mods aux allures de zombies urbains et \u00e0 l\u2019accent cockney \u00e0 couper au couteau.) <em>Rhapsodie en trois bandes<\/em> constitue une incursion onirique et fantasmatique dans le Londres des ann\u00e9es 80 de la part de Alan Clarke connu pour son style r\u00e9aliste \u2013 m\u00eame si <em>Elephant<\/em> prolongera un an plus tard, avec beaucoup plus de sobri\u00e9t\u00e9, cette ambiance cauchemardesque \u2013 mais la virulence politique du cin\u00e9aste et sa haine de l\u2019establishment demeurent intactes. La mise en sc\u00e8ne de Clarke virtuose comme toujours privil\u00e9gie les longs mouvements de cam\u00e9ra circulaires ou d\u2019incroyables travellings arri\u00e8res en plans s\u00e9quences, mais aussi les dispositifs brechtiens au cours desquels les com\u00e9diens chantent en plan fixe face \u00e0 la cam\u00e9ra, et les d\u00e9cors et accessoires qui accentuent le style artificiel du film. Nous sommes \u00e0 mi-chemin d\u2019une longue tradition th\u00e9\u00e2trale et de l\u2019av\u00e8nement r\u00e9cent du clip, qui reprendra, surtout en Angleterre, certains de ces proc\u00e9d\u00e9s de distanciation. La musique rock de George Fenton est une agr\u00e9able surprise et colle bien au style du film. Dommage que <em>Rhapsodie en trois bandes<\/em> soit pass\u00e9 totalement inaper\u00e7u \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, tandis qu\u2019un battage m\u00e9diatique insens\u00e9 avait \u00e9t\u00e9 organis\u00e9 autour d\u2019une autre \u2013 et co\u00fbteuse \u2013 com\u00e9die musicale sociale anglaise, <em>Absolute Beginners<\/em> de Julian Temple, ratage artistique et \u00e9chec commercial cuisant.
