Le film est enti\u00e8rement parl\u00e9 en langage des signes, sans le moindre sous-titrage, sans cartons ou voix-off non plus, mais il demeure compr\u00e9hensible par tous, pr\u00e9tendant \u00e0 la fameuse universalit\u00e9 du cin\u00e9ma. <em>The Tribe <\/em>raconte l\u2019histoire d\u2019un jeune adolescent, Sergei, sourd et muet, qui entre dans un internat sp\u00e9cialis\u00e9 et doit subir le bizutage d\u2019une bande qui organise trafics et prostitution, \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur et \u00e0 l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur de l&rsquo;\u00e9cole. Sergei parvient \u00e0 en gravir les \u00e9chelons du groupe mais tombe amoureux de la jeune Anna, membre de cette tribu, qui vend son corps pour survivre et quitter l&rsquo;Ukraine. Tout le film se d\u00e9roule dans un environnement peupl\u00e9 de sourds muets, enfants et adultes, \u00e9l\u00e8ves et enseignants, micro soci\u00e9t\u00e9 qui reproduit l\u2019ordre et le chaos d\u2019un pays tout entier. <em>The Tribe<\/em> est constitu\u00e9 d\u2019une succession de longs plans s\u00e9quences \u00e0 l\u2019int\u00e9rieur desquels les mouvements des protagonistes sont parfaitement chor\u00e9graphi\u00e9s (on pense en particulier \u00e0 une extraordinaire et maladroite bagarre devant une assembl\u00e9e qui manifeste son excitation en langage des signes.) Le silence qui r\u00e8gne dans le film ne fait qu\u2019exacerber sa tristesse et sa violence, les seuls sons sortant de la bouche de ses jeunes protagonistes se limitant \u00e0 des cris de douleur ou de br\u00e8ve extase. On peut trouver limite une certaine pose dans la repr\u00e9sentation frontale d\u2019actes sexuels \u2013 simul\u00e9s \u2013 souvent vu ailleurs ou une sc\u00e8ne de curetage \u00e9prouvante dans une salle de bain quand Anna d\u00e9cide d\u2019avorter. Mais le film poss\u00e8de un pouvoir de sid\u00e9ration qui l\u2019emp\u00eache de tomber dans l\u2019exercice de style formaliste et froid \u00e0 la cruaut\u00e9 syst\u00e9matique, et entra\u00eene le spectateur dans un voyage physique qui le documente sur le d\u00e9sespoir profond de tout un pays et pas seulement une certaine cat\u00e9gorie de sa population, vivant en autarcie sensorielle mais oblig\u00e9e de se battre et de transiger avec la loi pour survivre, comme tout le monde. <em>The Tribe<\/em> fait penser \u00e0 <em>Scum<\/em> d\u2019Alan Clarke et aux films d\u2019Ulrich Seidl. Son pessimiste et le caract\u00e8re sordide de certaines sc\u00e8nes n\u2019emp\u00eachent pas la justesse du regard du cin\u00e9aste et l\u2019amour qu\u2019il porte \u00e0 ses deux protagonistes principaux. Des pointes d\u2019humour surgissent, et <em>The Tribe<\/em> poss\u00e8de une conclusion aussi brutale qu\u2019inoubliable (on y v\u00e9rifie que la surdit\u00e9 des victimes est bien commode lorsqu\u2019on d\u00e9cide d\u2019entreprendre une tuerie.) Le jury de la Semaine de la Critique, qui s\u2019est termin\u00e9e hier soir, lui a d\u00e9cern\u00e9 le Grand Prix et le Prix d\u00e9couverte.
