Ce moyen m\u00e9trage r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par le cin\u00e9aste italien en 1963 faisait initialement partie d\u2019un film collectif, <i>RoGoPaG<\/i>, produit par Alfredo Bini. Dans les ann\u00e9es 60 en Italie c\u2019\u00e9tait la mode des films \u00e0 sketches et Bini avait eu l\u2019id\u00e9e de r\u00e9unir Robert Rosselini (Ro), Jean-Luc Godard (Go), Pier Paolo Pasolini (Pa) et le moins c\u00e9l\u00e8bre Ugo Gregoretti (G) dans un film \u00e0 \u00e9pisodes parlant de la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 de consommation moderne. Les petits films de ses coll\u00e8gues ne laisseront aucune trace, et <i>RoGoPaG<\/i> serait imm\u00e9diatement tomb\u00e9 dans l\u2019oubli si le segment <i>La ricotta<\/i> (\u00ab\u00a0le fromage blanc\u00a0\u00bb) de Pasolini n\u2019\u00e9tait un pur chef-d\u2019\u0153uvre qui d\u00e9clencha un \u00e9norme scandale, accus\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0d\u2019insulte \u00e0 la religion d\u2019\u00e9tat\u00a0\u00bb et qui vaudra \u00e0 Pasolini l\u2019un des nombreux proc\u00e8s et condamnations qui pars\u00e8meront sa vie d\u2019artiste et d\u2019intellectuel. Scandale plus scandaleux que le film lui-m\u00eame, mais qui en dit long sur les forces r\u00e9actionnaires, les mentalit\u00e9s hypocrites et le pouvoir du Vatican dans l\u2019Italie du boom \u00e9conomique. Alberto Moravia dira\u00a0: \u00ab\u00a0L&rsquo;accusation \u00e9tait celle d&rsquo;insulte \u00e0 la religion. Beaucoup plus juste aurait \u00e9t\u00e9 d&rsquo;accuser le r\u00e9alisateur d&rsquo;avoir insult\u00e9 les valeurs de la petite et moyenne bourgeoisie italienne.\u00a0\u00bb En 1963 Pasolini n\u2019a encore mis en sc\u00e8ne que deux longs m\u00e9trages, <em>Accattone<\/em> et <em>Mamma Roma<\/em>, mais ils ont obtenu un tr\u00e8s grand retentissement. Pasolini a d\u00e9j\u00e0 l\u2019id\u00e9e de consacrer un film \u00e0 la vie du Christ \u2013 ce sera <i>L\u2019Evangile selon Saint Matthieu<\/i>, tourn\u00e9 en 1964, mais entretemps il \u00e9crit <i>La ricotta<\/i> sur le tournage de <i>Mamma Roma\u00a0<\/i>: l\u2019histoire d\u2019un film dans le film, qui m\u00eale r\u00e9flexion sur le cin\u00e9ma, r\u00e9f\u00e9rences picturales et transposition de la passion du Christ, sur un mode trivial, \u00e0 travers le destin tragique d\u2019un cr\u00e8ve-la-faim des faubourgs de Rome engag\u00e9 comme figurant. Ce pauvre h\u00e8re engag\u00e9 pour jouer l\u2019un des larrons crucifi\u00e9s aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s du Christ donne son panier repas \u00e0 sa famille mis\u00e9reuse. A l\u2019issue d\u2019\u00e9pisodes tragi-comiques pour glaner un peu de nourriture, il s\u2019empiffre de ricotta sous les rires moqueurs de l\u2019\u00e9quipe et meurt d\u2019indigestion sur la croix. Pour Pasolini, seuls le sous-prol\u00e9tariat est encore digne de partager le martyr du Christ. Son film est certes provocateur mais il n\u2019est pas blasph\u00e9matoire, respectueux et plein d\u2019amour pour les saintes \u00e9critures. Les plans du tableau sont en couleur tandis que le reste du film est en noir et blanc. Pour Pasolini le sacr\u00e9 survit dans la r\u00e9alit\u00e9 du peuple, pas dans l\u2019art acad\u00e9mique tel que le met en sc\u00e8ne une parodie de lui-m\u00eame, figure un peu ridicule de l\u2019artiste engag\u00e9 mais bourgeois qui ne s\u2019exprime que par aphorismes, et lit sur le plateau le sc\u00e9nario de <i>Mamma Roma<\/i>. \u00ab\u00a0Je suis une force du pass\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb d\u00e9clame le personnage d\u2019Orson Welles \u00e0 un journaliste, alors que Welles est oblig\u00e9 de jouer en Europe dans les productions des autres, incapable de monter ses propres films.
