A la fin des ann\u00e9es 60, certains cin\u00e9astes engag\u00e9s s\u2019aventurent dans des entreprises ouvertement commerciales mais n\u00e9anmoins porteuses d\u2019un message politique sans ambigu\u00eft\u00e9, solidaire de la ligne du Parti Communiste italien. Parmi eux, principalement, Damiano Damiani (<i>El Chuncho<\/i>, <i>La Mafia fait la loi<\/i>, <i>Nous sommes tous en libert\u00e9 provisoire<\/i>, disparu il y a quelques mois) et Carlo Lizzani. Disciple de Rossellini, ancien r\u00e9sistant, critique de cin\u00e9ma, communiste, Lizzani va tenter dans les ann\u00e9es 60 d\u2019appliquer certains principes esth\u00e9tiques du n\u00e9o-r\u00e9alisme \u00e0 des films dossiers, traitant de sujets historiques, sociaux ou politiques. Comme bon nombre de ses confr\u00e8res il d\u00e9bute comme sc\u00e9nariste en participant notamment \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9criture des films de Giuseppe de Santis (<i>Riz amer<\/i>, <i>P\u00e2ques sanglantes<\/i>\u2026) et d\u2019<i>Allemagne ann\u00e9e z\u00e9ro<\/i>. Lizzani va alterner durant sa carri\u00e8re les \u0153uvres s\u00e9rieuses et respectables (<i>Chroniques des pauvres amants<\/i>), les productions plus commerciales li\u00e9es aux modes du cin\u00e9ma de genre et les films aux fronti\u00e8res du \u00ab\u00a0trash\u00a0\u00bb m\u00ealant pr\u00e9occupations politico-sociales et cin\u00e9ma d\u2019exploitation crapoteux (<i>Storie di vita e di malavita<\/i>, <i>Kleinhoff Hotel<\/i>).<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est dans la deuxi\u00e8me cat\u00e9gorie que Lizzani a sign\u00e9 ses films les plus enthousiasmants, chroniques criminelles revisitant l\u2019histoire contemporaine de l\u2019Italie ou les rouages de la mafia avec rigueur et b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiant du savoir-faire du cin\u00e9ma transalpin des ann\u00e9es 60 et 70. Le premier et le meilleur film de cette s\u00e9rie est <i>Le Bossu de Rome<\/i> (<i>Il gobbo<\/i>, 1960) avec G\u00e9rard Blain, inspir\u00e9 de l\u2019histoire vraie d\u2019un petit gangster qui devint l\u2019un des chefs de la r\u00e9sistance durant l\u2019occupation de Rome par l\u2019arm\u00e9e allemande en 1943. Le succ\u00e8s du film encouragera Lizzani \u00e0 pers\u00e9v\u00e9rer dans cette voie. Certains de ces titres autrefois populaires en Italie sont tomb\u00e9s aux oubliettes et on aimerait d\u00e9couvrir <i>Lutring, r\u00e9veille toi et meurs <\/i>(<i>Svegliati e uccidi<\/i>, 1966), <i>Torino nera<\/i> (1972) sur la p\u00e8gre turinoise ou <i>Crazy Joe<\/i> (1974) un autre mafia-movie violent cette fois-ci tourn\u00e9 \u00e0 New York avec Peter Boyle et produit par l&rsquo;habituel Dino de Laurentiis. Lizzani a aussi tourn\u00e9 deux westerns anecdotiques, <i>Du sang dans la montagne<\/i> (<i>Un fiume di dollari<\/i>, 1966) pas mal, et le d\u00e9cevant <i>Tue et fais ta pri\u00e8re<\/i> (<i>Requiescant<\/i>, 1967), lourde all\u00e9gorie politique o\u00f9 l\u2019on croise Pasolini en paysan mexicain\u00a0! N\u2019est pas Corbucci ni Sollima qui veut\u2026<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11055\" style=\"width: 458px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/2013\/10\/bandits-in-milan.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11055\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11055\" alt=\"Gian Maria Volont\u00e9 dans Bandits \u00e0 Milan\" src=\"https:\/\/www.arte.tv\/sites\/olivierpere\/files\/2013\/10\/bandits-in-milan.jpg\" width=\"448\" height=\"252\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11055\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gian Maria Volont\u00e9 dans Bandits \u00e0 Milan<\/p><\/div>\n<p><i>Bandits \u00e0 Milan<\/i> (<i>Banditi a Milano<\/i>, 1968, photo en t\u00eate de texte) est un des titres s\u00e9minaux du polar \u00e0 l\u2019italienne (avec <i>La polizia ringrazia<\/i> de Stefano Vanzina) et un des meilleurs films de Lizzani toutes cat\u00e9gories confondues. On y retrouve une dimension ouvertement documentaire, une esth\u00e9tique qualifiable de n\u00e9o-r\u00e9alisme d\u00e9grad\u00e9. Le film prend comme point de d\u00e9part la reconstitution minutieuse des agissements d\u2019une bande de gangsters organisateurs de plusieurs braquages de banques. Mais le film ne l\u00e9sine pas non plus sur l\u2019action, le suspens, et invente un folklore et des personnages qui seront par la suite d\u00e9clin\u00e9s dans les polars de s\u00e9rie B mis en sc\u00e8ne par Umberto Lenzi, Enzo G. Castellari, Stelvio Massi et les autres avec plus ou moins de bonheur, beaucoup plus de cynisme et une id\u00e9ologie affich\u00e9e \u00e0 droite.
