30 April 1991: ARTE is founded in Strasbourg as a European Economic Interest Grouping (E.E.I.G.), comprising the French member La Sept and the German member ARTE Deutschland TV GmbH. Jérôme Clément and Dietrich Schwarzkopf are nominated President and Vice President of the management board.
