Stories from the Continent – Over to our European Neighbours

A collection of reports from across Europe, focusing on the issues that affect European citizens in their everyday lives.

How are our neighbours coping with the changes resulting from a society that is in constant evolution and that has to deal with ecological and social challenges as well as rapidly changing lifestyles? These unique stories from across the continent provide a balanced, European and pluralist take on the key issues of the day.

For this joint project, European public broadcasters ARTE, ARD and ZDF (Germany), RTBF (Belgium), SRG SSR (Switzerland) and LTV (Latvia) are joining forces to share and co-produce these reports and make them available free of charge across Europe.

Available in French, German, English, Spanish, Polish, Italian and Latvian (coming soon), the reports can be found on each of the partners’ digital offers (website, apps, Smart-TV): arte.tv, ardmediathek.de, auvio.rtbf.be, Play Suisse e zdf.de.

Background and funding – a consortium of six public service broadcasters

Between 2024 and 2026, the “Stories from the Continent” collection will be receiving European funding from DG CONNECT’s Multimedia Actions budget as part of the “European Media join forces within a Multilingual Offer of news and current affairs Video-formats for all Europeans” (EMOVE) project.

Alongside the “Stories from the Continent” collection, and thanks to an ARTE-coordinated partnership with European print media, the project also supports the development of a pluralistic, independent news offer focusing on European issues, in as many as 10 languages.

For both the “Stories from the Continent” collection and the joint European news offer, the EU co-funding contribution aims to support the development of free, independent, quality news for citizens across Europe, from a pan-European, grassroots perspective.
