Quality and creativity
for everyone in Europe
ARTE provides programmes for everyone, including 85% European productions.
ARTE in 6 languages
for 70 % of Europeans in their mother tongue
ARTE offers high-quality programmes to 70% Europeans in their own language. ARTE programmes are broadcast in French and German 24 hours a day in HD quality on all screens. For 600 hours a year magazines, documentaries and shows are subtitled in English, Spanish, Polish and soon also in Italian. This is a unique experience cofinanced by the European Union since 2015 "to foster EU integration through culture by providing new subtitled versions of selected TV programmes across Europe".
As the European Culture Channel, ARTE provides cultural programming that fosters understanding among Europeans and brings people together. Since its creation in 1991, ARTE stands for cultural diversity and multilingualism. ARTE uncovers new talent, encourages artistic creativity, and preserves and promotes Europe’s cultural heritage. ARTE supports talented film-makers as a co-producer and shows ambitious new creations, daring drama and series. On offer are also bold documentaries, no infotainment but daily news of vital interest to Europeans. Not to forget the live music and performances and avant-garde magazines.

Books and Videos
in French and German
ARTE Editions' editorial policy has built a reputation as one of the key players in the video production market, with complex and historic milestones such as the complete cinema of Pierre Etaix (mostly unavailable for 20 years) or a box set featuring Charlie Chaplin’s first 35 films. There are also around 100 books available, including top-sellers like Le Dessous des Cartes (If Maps could Talk) from Jean-Christophe Victor’s programme, Marie-Monique Robin’s The World according to Monsanto, and the graphic novel Waltz with Bashir, inspired by Ari Folman’s first animated documentary feature.
Reports, documentaries, series or news… Hundreds of original audio creations for your personal listening pleasure.
ARTE Radio is a free on-demand, Internet radio service. You can either listen online to our program or download hundreds of reports, radio dramas, documentaries, audio creations and series. All our programmes are original, and are produced especially by and for ARTE Radio. The programmes are broadcasted under a Creative Commons licence, for either online-listening, for downloading in Ogg Vorbis or MP3 format, or for podcasting and listening to on iPod.
Although most programs are in French, many of our sound creations do not contain words and are therefore universal. A whole range of ARTE Radio productions are accessible to listeners who do not understand French: some of them are in English; others are in German; and for many others, language is not an issue at all, as everything is conveyed by noise, music and atmosphere - in short, by sound.
