The European Parliament has two sites, more than 400km apart – one in Brussels, one in Strasbourg. The daily parliamentary work of preparing European legislation takes place in Brussels, while the debates and votes of the plenary sessions are held in Strasbourg, four days a month. So once a month MEPs and EU staff shuttle between the two sites. The cost of this monthly mass movement is one of the most frequent criticisms levelled at the EU. So is it a complete waste of money? Let's take a look.
