Emma (4/4)
During a social outing, Emma makes a hurtful remark to Miss Bates, abruptly souring the joyful atmosphere. George Knightley is outraged and reproaches her for her cruelty. Ann Weston, her former governess, then tells her that Frank Churchill had secretly become engaged to Jane Fairfax before his arrival in Highbury. Emma reluctantly decides to inform Harriet about it. But Harriet then reveals the name of the man she says she loves, and the clever matchmaker finally realises how blind she has been to her own feelings.
