Something Different (1963)A Film by Věra Chytilová
In the 1960s, there were far more female directors in the Eastern bloc than in the West such as Věra Chytilová, a leading figure of the Czechoslovak New Wave. Something Else brings together the stories of two thirtysomething women who have never met but are grappling with the same problem. Feeling squeezed between the monotony of their everyday lives and their desire for change are Eva, a gymnast, and Věra, an ordinary housewife.
