The Irish Revolution

Narrated by Cillian Murphy, this is the remarkable story of the Irish War of Independence (1919-1922) which resulted in the formation of the Irish Free State and became the model for other British colonies to gain their independence.

Following on from the failed insurrection of 1916, this documentary tells the story of how revolutionary Ireland reorganised and rebuilt a movement which would eventually lead to an independent Ireland.  Hugely important figures such as Michael Collins and Éamon de Valera would emerge onto the world stage, as leaders of Ireland’s revolutionary struggle, facing iconic British political heavyweights such as Winston Churchill and David Lloyd George.
