In August 1980, Lech Walesa became famous overnight. An electrician at the Lenin shipyard in Gdansk and a member of the illegal strike committee, the man with the moustache fought for the creation of free trade unions. In less than two weeks, the charismatic man succeeded in getting the Communist government to accept the creation of the Solidarity trade union. His story was told in a 2013 biopic by Polish director Andrzej Wajda.
