One of the best-known masses in the Western art music repertoire and an event not to be missed. Beethoven originally intended to compose his mass for the enthronement of his patron, Archduke Rudolf of Austria, as Archbishop of Ölmütz. However, it was not until three years later, in March 1823, that he completed the score, annotated: 'From the heart, may it return to the heart'. The rhythmic contrast and the expressive rending of the text are windows into the composer's emotions. In this time of health crisis, Riccardo Muti chose this grandiose mass to sow confidence and happiness.
