Disability: the fairy tale of inclusion

51 min

Available until 04/06/2025

In this programme we meet four people with disabilities, who fight a daily battle for acceptance and their right to autonomy. Islam Alijaj, who has physical and speech impairments, wants to become a member of the National Council. Visually impaired geologist Barbara Müller is fighting for an appointment as a university lecturer. Paraplegic David Mzee wants to work as a physical education teacher. And Amir Gashi, who has muscular dystrophy, is holding on to his international DJing career for as long as he can. Each shines a light on the often insurmountable gap between the fairy tale of inclusion and equality, and the reality people with disabilities have to live with.

This programme by Swiss broadcaster SRG SSR is part of the European Collection, a joint initiative from European public service media (ARD, ARTE, France Télévisions, SRG SSR, RTBF and ZDF), coordinated by ARTE.
