Nuclear bunkers for all

Arguably the country best equipped to face a nuclear disaster, Switzerland could shelter up to 9 million people in its public and private underground bunkers. Although the infrastructure may seem positive and far-sighted today with the war in Ukraine on the horizon, the initiative was largely criticised when first launched during World War II.

This programme of the Swiss channel SRG SSR is part of The European Collection, a joint initiative of European public media (ARD, ARTE, France Télévisions, SRG SSR and ZDF), coordinated by ARTE.
