Cristian Măcelaru conducts Debussy, Rachmaninov and Saint-SaënsOrchestre National de France
Tonight’s concert is a significant one for the French national orchestra: The opening concert of the 2020-2021 season, no mean feat in coronavirus times, and the first performance with new musical director, Romanian conductor Cristian Măcelaru.
On the programme: The enchanting sound world of Debussy’s sensual modernist masterpiece Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune. A monument of the piano solo repertoire, Sergei Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the young British pianist. Benjamin Grosvenor. And to finish the evening Camille Saint-Saëns’ rarely performed Symphony No. 2.
